A DISTANT WORLD
The islands of Vaderoarna consists of 365 small islands and isles in one of Swedens most atonishing areas of nature and spieces, being such a remote place. The islands are located 7 nautical miles from the harbours of Fjallbacka and Hamburgsund in the county of Vastra Gotaland (Bohuslan), 2 hrs drive from Gothenburg and 40 min with speedboat from the mainland.
The islands rich history also contributes to the experience, the Vikings passed, pirates and later pilots set up their landmarks and since 1550 continuous piloting has been operated. The pilot station is closed since 1966, yet a tiny pilot village of elder houses is left.
The houses in the "pilot village" are dating from 1802 to the ninteenfourties. By obvious resaons, they vary in both size and comfort. However, they are all located closer than 15 meters to the Atlantic Ocean.
Due to our landlord, the National Property Board of Sweden, we are not allowed to rent out our houses. This, despite our wish to do so.
Who are "we"?
We are descendants to the old pilots and have rented our houses from the Crown of Sweden since 50 years back. Before that, our families have operated and lived on Vaderoarna, The weather islands, since the 16th century.
Today, we are very concerned about the negative changes that seem to follow by the monopoly situation, and the brutal exploitation on the island.

Living in a pilot' s house
Our houses are facing both east and west, lacking all that modern comfort, however filled with mental wealth.
Just to discover how much we vaist our resources becomes real when you carry your water bucket from the well, or take your morning shower by swimming in the crispy salt water of the Northern Atlantic. After a few days on the island, your mind attendance gets noticeable - as if you live for the first time.
As if you suddenly realize that you can breathe.
Unfortunately, the National Property Board of Sweden, and the tavern on the island, intend to transform this cultural heritage into an excluding hotel complex for well-off party tourism.
We are deeply worried about this.
